High School Juniors and Seniors preparing for college are encountering high education costs, which may be alleviated or assisted by scholarships or contests. Many students find the time and effort necessary in applying for scholarships and contests may be daunting. However, many scholarships and contests are not awarded every year because no one applies, or some scholarships are awarded to a student simply because s/he was the only applicant. Therefore, students would be amiss if they did not apply for scholarships and contests, because they may have a high chance of receiving the award. Let’s look at some places to find scholarships and contests available for Juniors and Seniors.

Scholarships and Contests

Juniors and Seniors have many scholarship and contest options. Existing in broad ranges, like intended major, to the most focused scholarship, like a scholarship issued to the child of a local grocery store employee, scholarship and contest opportunities stretch across many categories. One of the best places to search for scholarships on the internet is www.scholarship.com. However, specific scholarship/contest opportunities can be found through a Google search.

Most high school campuses are kept abreast on the latest local scholarships and contests, so a visit to the school guidance counselor can help a student identify community scholarships. The school counselor can also assist the student in finding other scholarships/contests. Many national scholarship opportunities may be listed in the counselor’s reference material, or the counselor may know of new scholarships or contests as they are announced.

Although scholarships and contests may be intimidating to some students, there is a form of assistance for every type of student. From the studious child to the athletic child to the artistic child, scholarships exist in every student’s strength. Searching the internet and speaking to a guidance counselor can help a student identify the best scholarship or contest to which s/he may apply.
