The cost of a college education is much more substantial than time and effort these days. In fact, the average Ivy League education costs around $120,000.00. That is the equivalent of nearly $600,000.00 from turn of the century costs in the 20th century. Today’s education is not only a necessary accomplishment in order to be successful in the competitive work place, but is also a basic expectation of parents across the country. There are many ways to help with the cost of education, and the expenses that are part of a college career.
The first step a family could take that would help with the high costs of an education would be to consider attending a Junior College for the first two years. This could eliminate nearly half of the fees, and could possibly be paid without the need of student loans. The second option for a family is to have a student attend via online courses. Many online universities charge a flat semester rate, or semi-annual rate. There is financial aid available, but generally these institutions are highly affordable.
Finally the last option is to investigate the scholarships that are available. Many scholarships go un-applied for, and therefore the money sits. There have even been instances where a student applies for a scholarship that they did not qualify for, but because they were the only applicant, they were awarded the amount. An easy way to earn scholarships is through essay contests. Many small businesses put these together and present them to local high schools, and even Junior Colleges. The requirements are easy; many just want to read about a student and their goals. If written well, many scholarship providers are willing to split the scholarship, and even provide an extension that guarantees a future scholarship in another year for a student.
